Book: Living Me to We
Sorry for my lack of posts lately, after I got the flu I feel like I have been playing catch up with my life. Sometimes when everything seems overwhelming, it's great to just zone out for a little while and catch up on a good book. Or I mean you can go down the productive route, buckle down and get things done (honestly though books are more fun haha).
I have known about the Kielburger brothers for quite awhile, and have always loved the positive impact they are continuously making in the world. Just attend one We Day celebration, and you will be inspired by the positive energy surrounding you. Sometimes when you leave such a life changing event you wonder to yourself, how can I, one person make a real difference? This book is great for showing us how to make small changes in our everyday lives. It gives you tips from the time you wake up, until the time you go to bed, that collectively if we all did will make a huge impact on the world. It also shares inspirational stories from famous Canadians, who are taking small steps to create a big impact. I believe that if we followed even half the ideas in this book, we would make this world a better place, while living happier lives.
Here are some cool tips:
1. Keep drinking water cold in the fridge, rather than running the faucet until it's cold. This saves a lot of wasted water.
2. Buy sustainable, ethical clothing as it is often better made, lasts longer and saves you money.
3. Repair or reuse old clothing, instead of buying new items. For example turn an old T-shirt into a reusable shopping bag to carry your groceries. Find out how to over here.
4. Knowledge is power. If you have a book sitting on your shelf, share it with a friend and let those pages open up again.
5. To save energy, buy a power bar with an on-off switch to kill the power on multiple appliances with one switch.
6. Recycle your old cell phone. Did you know that less than 5% of cell phones are recycled?
7. At work, ask your boss to switch to recycled paper at work. Also think before you print, and if you are printing use both sides of the paper.
8. When driving, avoid aggressive driving as this consumes way more fuel than necessary.
9. Instead of buying harsh cleaners for your home, use home made cleaners such as a mix of white vinegar and water.
10. Participate in random acts of kindness, such as helping someone with a heavy load of groceries if you're going the same way.
Thanks for reading! Have a great day, and I hope you are wearing your pink shirt today, as it supports Anti-Bullying! xo Andrea |
These are some great ideas. It's wonderful to see people who care so much about making a difference.
